“Domo, the Japanese stop-action character and meme celebrity, is appearing this fall in an elaborate 7-Eleven storewide promotion, and his toothy brown face is plastered on everything imaginable. Tons of signage of all over, collectible Slurpee cups (and Domo’s own custom flavor, Fuji Frost), character straws, coffee cups, and some truly inventive and funny packaging design for the hot dog containers. There’s even Domo schwag like hats, t-shirts, and books. Evan Brody, the marketing manager for Slurpee, told Brandweek that 7-Eleven’s consumers “love crazy Japanese shit.”

    I saw it in 7-11 in NYC! So cute! However there’s only hotdog and spiced pumpkin latte! I am gonna visit other locations!

    Yes, but WHY???

    Its driving me crazy why 7-11 would suddenly start promoting Domo-kun in the manic way that it has. Is this some sort of product tie-in? Are they coming out with a movie or show or something? I just don’t understand the reasons why they would start promoting Domo-kun like this other than hitting up the anime-Japan-centric internet culture the loves him. I’ve loved Domo-kun for years, but in terms of advertising, I just don’t understand.

    The promotion is aimed to generate awareness for America‚Äôs first Domo DVD, which will contain the online shorts, the Japanese commercials, and other extras. thats off of 7-11’s press realise back in may.

    I think it is a great marketing technique. I find it quite catchy and have frequented 7-11 more often just to see what the stores are selling. I found one place that sold DOMO keychains and other items. I gave in and bought a few as well as my cup of coffee.

    Sorry, I don’t get it either. Not funny. Ridiculous. I have a bunch of kids and none of them knew about it or cared. But it is their advertising money.

    Domo is awesome! I’m going to 7-11 after work with my girlfriend to see if they have any of this at my local store. Hopefully the Slurpee cups are plastic collectibles because I want to drink out of that BrainFreeze one for the rest of my life.
