This is a total rip off of Laughing Stock Wine packaging, created in 2003 (!).

Well, it’s difficult when you’re talking about type represented on such a common shape. While it has obvious similarities with Laughing Stock, this has been far more elegantly executed.

When did we become so obsessed with originality over evolution of ideas?

That should not be seen as a defence of fakes/copies/replicas etc, but this is beautifully resolved packaging design.

Ditto to that. We need to start being more responsible as a design community.

Stunning! I was not familiar with Laughing Stock, so had a look. Yes, it is very similar, but as BenGMorgan says, they have taken the idea and have done it in a more sophisticated and elegant way, it looks great.

@BenG – I’m worried that it’s too much of a copout to say that because it’s a common form, there’s more of an excuse to execute so closely to an existing design. Whether or not it’s more sophisticated, someone else had already committed a design in this avenue. If you aren’t looking to be original, then at least have the tact to credit where your inspiration came from that you’re “building” off of.

The internet is becoming too much of an antithesis to the rigor of schooling and design foundations. It seems to be providing more designers with a soft pat on the back for sharing work rather than fueling the industry and community with more drive to iterate and innovate rather than borrow and rehash. Fair (operative word) critiques should be welcome, especially if pointing out blatant creative plagiarism without referencing other works.

Excuse the rant – I’m open to hearing opposing views obviously.

also, I’m pretty sure this is just purely a photoshop concept knowing the silkscreen limitations (near to impossible to print on the shoulders or on the curves of the neck)… and the fact that on the pictures all the bottles, no matter which shot, is exactly the same (reflection and so on…).

so really, yes it is “more sophisticated” looking but if this project is to showcase your creative/concept skills, I’m sorry but this is even more wrong(!)
