“The actual tulip flowers and their unique names (e.g. Red Emperor, Pink Diamond, Sweetheart, etc.) inspired me to create a series of ecological and interactive self promotion package-gifts for 2011 containing tulip bulbs. The illustrations created on the packs were inspired by the name of each unique tulip.”

The design is cute, but dishonest. I get that this was a self-promotion kinda thing and not an actual retail product, but it’s still worth noting that the tulip doodles don’t offer a customer hoping to buy tulip bulbs any reasonable idea of what the blossom of that particular cultivar will look like. It’d be trying to woo customers with a premise that has nothing to do with tulips.
If this were a retail product, there ought to be a clear indication of what the customer is actually getting should they decide to buy the product. Doesn’t have to be a photo or an illustration. Even a pattern swatch that reflects the color pattern of the flower could be enough, assuming the doodle approximates the shape of the flower.

So lovely! I would definitely buy that.
And Luke, I don’t quite agree. These kind of packages are more for people who look for a ‘surprise’, where it doesn’t matter which flower will grow out of it. It’s more a gift-thing then a targeted purchase I think.
