Saison Beer

Zoran Konjarski of Melbourne’s RMIT sent us this great work he did as part of his third-year communication design degree.
“My concept to the bottle graphics were to move away from traditional beer graphics, and make the bottle design differentiate in the market by taking on an extreme modern and minimalist design. This almost sterile approach followed through into the packaging of the 2-pack and -pack varieties by packaging the beer in blister packs like pharmaceuticals. The blister packs were custom molded for the beer bottles.”

There is something about intentionally packaging a recyclable container in disposable packaging that strikes me as poor design.
Has sustainability already gone out of fashion?

Sometimes I really wonder if ‘extremely minimal approach’ is actually code for blast the object in question with a big bold helvetica neue treatment, with no real regard to what is right for the product. This to me feels like it was arty and minimal for the sake of being arty and minimal. There are a million interesting treatments for something as varied and rich in history and culture as beer, this looks like it could be a bottle of cough syrup.
