Packaging Design: Dekalb Farmers Market

Designed by: Bert Bacchus | Country: US

Established on June 2, 1977, Dekalb Farmers Market started its journey “as a small 7,500 sq. ft. produce stand in Decatur, Georgia.” Today, Dekalb has “grown into a true world market.” The founder and owner, Robert Blazer, still looks after the operations with help from his wife, Barbara, and son Daniel.

The official website of Dekalb mentions the following:

“Our reputation in the industry is as a pioneer in fresh food distribution to the consumer. We are very unique in receiving direct global shipments of fresh food without costly warehousing and distribution delays. We believe we provide the highest quality, lowest cost, and largest variety of fresh food products currently available.”

The packaging

Dekalb Farmers Market approached Bert Bacchus, a graphic artist, to create the packaging design for some of its products. The simple packaging was specially designed to make customers feel that they had visited a port where they got their passports stamped.

“The Dekalb Farmers Market is a loud, bustling epicenter of all things related to eating. I wanted the packaging to feel like you’d visited a port of call and just had your passport stamped. The labels are designed to work with a simple dot matrix printer.”
