Branding And Packaging Design: Penn Croft Wine

What do you get when a well-traveled filmmaker and a master of sustainable agriculture get together? You get WINE! And not just any wine; you get an award-winning sustainable English wine brand.

Malcolm Walker is a documentary filmmaker who has spent over a decade interviewing and filming the world’s top winemakers. Walker, along with Simon Porter, a guru of sustainable farming, teamed up to launch their award-winning wine range called Penn Croft.

Walker and Porter appointed packaging studio Valiant to create Penn Croft’s website, branding, and packaging. The two wanted the new branding and packaging to highlight English winemaking. According to the brief, the packaging had to be “premium and sustainable. It needed to have a standout on the shelf in retail as well as online.”

The packaging

Valiant created elegant designs that look premium and draw “attention to English winemaking.” The branding studio mentions the following:

We created a bespoke brand identity with unique typography and finished in a silk copper foil with embossing to provide additional texture. The labels are printed onto a beautiful premium cotton rich textured paper. The signature of winemaker Ben Smith is also captured in copper – in a handwritten style to reflect the hands-on approach they have in production. The Penncroft “P” has been designed as a blind embossed roundel on each label.”
