SingleDouble has masterfully brought to life Fen & Field’s philosophy of grain-to-glass spirits with a packaging design that encapsulates the distiller’s dedication to quality, honesty, and simplicity. The design brief required a strong connection to the distillery’s location and the spirit’s source, as well as a visual representation of the natural process of hand-crafting the spirit to the highest standards.
Fen & Field Distillery is nestled at the base of Mt Kapapuku, an area once rich with marshland and eels that nourished the local Maori tribes. The distillery is now surrounded by the stunning Waikato farmland, a haven for hawks and hedgerows teeming with hares and pheasants, once known as New Zealand’s grain basket.
In their design process, SingleDouble explored the use of natural materials that would mirror the brand’s core values. The chosen Estal Hot Rod bottle in Wild Glass, known for its recycled glass credentials, and natural paper stocks and finishes from MCC Labels, were integral to achieving this. The resulting design exudes the hand-crafted nature of the spirit, with details such as the delicate hot deboss foil giving the wheat wreath an almost transparent, lace-like finish.
