Over at Lovely Package, we’ve spotted a fascinating project where Aaron Pollock Design teamed up with Steven Noble to breathe new life into the Left Field Wines branding. Left Field Wines, part of the Te Awa Collection, was a brand in need of a unique voice and character to distinguish it in the market. Steven Noble proved to be the perfect creative mind for the job.
The idea was to craft a series of illustrations that didn’t take themselves too seriously, reflecting New Zealand’s freestyle approach to exploration, creativity, and imagination. This ethos is intrinsic to the winemakers at Left Field Wines and the illustrations needed to capture that spirit.
Steven Noble rose to the occasion by creating artwork that was hand-carved on scratchboard using X-Acto knives to scrape off the clayboard. The result was a collection of unique and original illustrations that perfectly embodied the unexpected, the weird, and the wonderful through moments of humour and unexpected surprises.
Not content to stop there, Left Field Wines took these illustrations and animated them in a captivating video, bringing the art of storytelling to their branding. The illustrations, including the Flamingo Urchin, Flying Fish Squid, Crab Squid, and the Hatching Deer, harmoniously blend into the beautiful vineyard landscapes of Left Field’s winery in New Zealand.
The release of these new label illustrations has helped Left Field Wines extend their reach to a global audience and has significantly contributed to their branding efforts. It’s a testament to the power of unique creativity in packaging design!
