Owned by the Kakridas family, Krystallo Estate is located in the valley adjacent to Lake Nillahcootie in North Eastern Victoria, Australia. Belitso is a premium wine series from the house of Krystallo and is named after Giorgios Belitso Kakridas, the head of the family.

‘Belitso’, this premium series of wines were named as a tribute to their beloved patriarch, Giorgios ‘Belitso’ Kakridas. True to the brand’s roots, this wine range also featured a few specific Greek grape varietals, not commonly cultivated in Australia, such as Malvasia and Kamari, introducing the old world to the new world.

The packaging

Krystallo Estate approached Harcus Design, an award-winning creative agency from Sydney, to create packaging designs that would depict beauty and honor. The primary color palette, pink and blue, was inspired by Lake Nillahcootie. The word has its origin in the Indian language and means ‘blue house.’

“The signature color palette – pink and blue – was drawn from the lake’s name Nillahcootie which is said to derive from the Indian language meaning ‘blue house’ and the beautiful pink ‘Common Heath’ flowers, the flower symbol of Victoria, with accents of rich gold foil.

The ‘Belitso’ labels printed on white cotton stock, feature slices of heroic Greek statuary. ‘Herma’, Greek statuary were traditionally depictions of an ideal—beauty, piety, honor or sacrifice. The carved heroic head is intercut with foiled ‘Common Heath’ flowers, all placed on a crystalline grid background with slivers of gloss highlights.”
