Tom Lane, also known as Ginger Monkey, has put his creative stamp on the branding for Doc Brown Farm & Distillers, as well the packaging for their first two bourbon whiskeys, Effie Jewel and Uncle Bogue.
This new visual identity draws heavily on the company’s roots in Georgia farming and traditional distilling methods. These elements are reflected in the hand-crafted logotype, which takes inspiration from Victorian and early-20th century signwriting and advertising, with each layer of copy expressed in a different style.
Within the brand mark, the image of Lady Liberty waves a banner representing family, faith, and fortitude, perfectly capturing the brand’s spirit with her high-heeled shoes adding a dash of fun and feistiness.
Tom Lane found the project particularly rewarding, citing the evocative and authentic narrative that combines strong traditional values with innovative thinking. The distillery grows its own grain and takes care of the entire production process, from milling and fermenting to aging the spirit in locally made charred oak barrels.
Amy Brown, co-founder of Doc Brown Farm & Distillers, shared that the first comments they receive always relate to the bottle and label design. This positive feedback even extends to retail store owners, who agree to stock their products mainly due to their impressive shelf presence.
The first signature bourbon, Effie Jewel, was named after and inspired by Amy Brown’s great aunt. The product’s personality is captured in the flowing script lettering and etched-style label illustration. It was launched alongside Uncle Bogue, the distillery’s first special reserve bourbon. This single barrel of uncut, unfiltered bourbon, double oaked over four years, takes its name from the perfectionist and tasteful great-great Uncle Bogue, who ran the family farm a century ago.
As Ginger Monkey continues to develop the brand identity of Doc Brown Farm & Distillers, they ensure it encapsulates the company’s story and values while also accommodating new product concepts. After creating a brand toolkit, Ginger Monkey launched the Doc Brown website in 2021 to introduce the brand and its products.
As the brand continues to grow, new product lines are planned for 2024, including Resurrection Red Bourbon, a new Uncle Bogue Special Reserve premium bourbon, and Day Swigger – a new line of naturally flavoured whiskeys.
