Noma kefir by Lidl is a prime example of how modern design can enhance a product with a long and rich history in the Mediterranean, Greek, and Eastern food cultures.
The Greek brand, Noma (Νώμα), is a unique collaboration with Lidl, offering a range of hyper-local Greek and Cypriot products. The brand boasts a diverse portfolio of quality food and beverage products characterized by local ingredients, regional flavors, and traditional recipes. Rooted in authenticity, tradition, locality, and nostalgia, Noma takes its name from the ancient Greek word for remembrance or memory.
The brand recently unveiled packaging for a dairy range that includes two “kefir” SKUs and one “ariani,” all produced in Cyprus.
The packaging design was inspired by the rich tradition and history of Cyprus, particularly the handmade mosaics of Pafos and its historical monuments. The design team created a modern mosaic version that serves as a key visual on the front of the packaging. This design not only highlights the handmade character of the products but also reflects the brand’s core values such as heritage, locality, tradition, craftsmanship, and quality.
The result is a deeply emotional reaction in the consumer at first glance. The eye-catching visual, reminiscent of a historical handmade piece of art, connects the brand with its origins. The vibrant and colourful palette adds a contemporary touch, perfectly balancing the product’s traditional essence and appealing to the modern consumer.
