“People gravitate towards brands that have a unique story to tell, and few have as rich a history as Budweiser. Since 1876, the brand has represented uncompromising quality and relentless ambition, reflected through the craft and care that goes into brewing every beer. Our task was to capture this spirit through design.

Recognising that it was time to align the brand identity with the beer itself, Budweiser partnered with our NYC team to refresh their packaging and visual identity. Starting with an exploration of the brand’s history, we uncovered the depth of Budweiser’s rich iconography. We then sweated the details, working alongside the world’s best to craft each element by hand.

From there, we created two bespoke typefaces to communicate the brand’s principles and a simplified bow tie icon to deliver a more contemporary identity for today’s audience.”

“To welcome in the festive season, Penhaligon’s have launched their 2012 Christmas Gift Collection, designed by jkr. Celebrating the brand’s rich heritage in Victorian London, the boxes are inspired by the classic pastime of theatre going.

‘As always, we gave jkr a very open brief, simply the idea of ‘Musical London’ and they came up with the wonderful idea of a British night at the theatre. This eccentric yet elegant theme allows us to tell our brand story internationally.’ Sarah Rotheram, CEO, Penhaligon’s.

‘The theme was explored in many different ways, but we were all really excited by the idea of musical theatre. Going to the theatre is such an English tradition at Christmas. “This month sees the launch of newly designed packaging for Lyons cakes. Briefed to explore and celebrate the brand’s rich heritage, the new look plays back to its famous history of teashops and its waitresses from the 1890s.

With a long-­‐standing tradition for ‘proper’ cakes, the brand was renowned for its nippy waitresses serving up affordable tea and cake to the masses. Having lost its way over the years, the redesign focused on communicating the brand’s story in a relevant and contemporary manner.”

Known for its unrefined sugars, the new design celebrates the quality of the product inside the pack, inspired by the vibrancy of its Mauritian origins. The decorative ‘Bs’ then portray the personality of each individual product, in a charming and charismatic way.”

“This month sees the launch of Ocado’s new packaging design, creating a fresh identity for the brand.

The new look & feel designed by jkr builds and elevates the existing Ocado brand mark, creating a distinctive and attractive design system which can work across the brand’s diverse range of own label products. This was then rolled out and implemented by the internal design team at Ocado.

As an online grocer, Ocado products are bought online and delivered straight to the door, so the redesign presented a unique opportunity for the creative work to exist outside the normal constraints of a supermarket environment. Free from the pressures of building navigation and appetite appeal, the design could focus on strengthening brand affinity.

“This week sees the launch of the 2011 Penhaligon’s Christmas Gift Collection, designed by jkr. The range conveys the premium elegance associated with the Penhaligon’s brand whilst playing on its wit and humor. “Our brief to jkr was to create a box that would both charm the customer with some British eccentricity whilst ensuring it felt like a bespoke gift” said Sarah Rotheram, CEO, Penhaligon’s. “The box needed to be a keep sake item with standalone appeal. At first glance the packaging was to appear beautiful but with a reason to look a little closer.”

“This month sees the launch of the new Penhaligon’s Christmas gift collection. The gift boxes, which are based on the theme of anthropomorphic animals, deliver a bespoke gifting solution for the boutique perfumer. Briefed with delivering eccentricity and decadence, the new collection creates a fantasy world in keeping with the brand’s charismatic charm. Each range tells a story, from an afternoon tea party through to music and discovery.

“This was a fantastically collaborative process with the client – we both wanted to create something unique that didn’t rely on Christmas clichés. The use of bright colours makes a real statement and ensures the boxes are not too traditional.” Jovan Buac, Senior Account Manager, jkr. “That’s the beauty of Penhaligon’s – the careful blending of the old and the new – modern doesn’t have to mean forgetting the past, but feeling classic doesn’t mean being really conservative.”

“This month sees the launch of jkr designed Sartorial, a new fragrance from boutique perfumer Penhaligon’s. In keeping with the charismatic eccentricity of the brand, Sartorial captures the smell of a Savile Row tailors shop. The scent was brought to life by renowned perfumer Bertrand Duchaufour inside Norton & Sons at 16 Savile Row, London. Duchaufour found himself captivated by the unique smell of the shop and tailor’s workroom, and as such, Sartorial evokes the masculine scent of sewing machines, needles, wool and cloth – the ultimate bespoke fragrance.

The packaging gives the Pengaligon’s brand (who are renowned for their heritage and history) a clean, elegant and more modern look. “Sartorial is for men of today and Savile Row is very much having a revival among young gents” said Jovan Buac, Senior Account Manager, jkr. “It was a challenging brief. We didn’t want to use any tailoring clichés and the design had to fit with the brand’s other fragrances, some of which have been around for over 140 years.”
