When we talk of different varieties of wines, the countries that we generally think of are Italy, France, and Spain. These countries produce some of the best wines in the world. However, there is one more European country, which is known for its distinct type of wine, Portugal.
Did you know that port wine is enjoyed the world over as dessert wine? Well, that is true; the thickness of the port makes it a perfect dessert wine.
Another important element of port wine is its unique blend. A true port is exclusive because only Portuguese grapes are used to create this variety of wine.
Van Zellers & Co Very Old Tawny Porto was created in 1968 and has never seen the light of day ever since, making this port wine special. Stored in traditional wooden casks, the 54-year-old wine finally found its way into a dome-shaped glass bottle held within an hourglass. Award-winning design agency RitaRivotti created the packaging to symbolize the flow of time.
The design agency mentions the following:
“We designed an hourglass to cradle this wine; the structure is made of quality wood and we selected a dome-shaped glass bottle.
By symbolizing the continuous passage of time, the hourglass glorifies this wonderful aging process that underlies all great Port Wines.”
