Waikulu Distillery’s Unique Agave Spirit Packaging Design: A Blend of Traditional Tequila and Hawaiian Sensibilities

10

The Maui-based Waikulu Distillery recently collaborated with CF Napa to design the packaging, custom bottle, and tasting glasses for their unique brand of agave spirits. The main challenge was to create a design that resonated with traditional tequila packaging, while also encapsulating an authentic Hawaiian vibe.

Drawing inspiration from the handblown glass bottles used by luxury tequila producers, CF Napa crafted a custom bottle featuring a variable pebble texture. To further enhance the tropical theme, a teal gradient was incorporated into the glass, invoking images of the beautiful oceans that surround Maui.

In terms of branding, CF Napa designed an impressive logo for Waikulu featuring an agave plant rising over the ocean. This symbol is foiled in copper on the front label and molded into the glass. For the Ohana Reserve, an exceptional variant of the product, the agave icon is stamped with a metallic blue foil that beautifully complements the teal hue of the glass bottle.

The Ohana Reserve stands out not just because of the blue foil, but also due to its black label, which adds a sense of gravitas to the package. This distinctive black label serves as a clear differentiation from the core spirit’s cream label, providing a visual cue to the super-premium quality of the Ohana Reserve.
