“The Niagara Oast House Bière de Noël is a limited edition winter warmer and like their other Farm House Ales, it’s brewed and bottle conditioned in a traditional Belgian style.

Continuing on the series of seasonal Farm House Ale packages, we envisioned this jolly Ho Ho H’Oast calling Santa with a more robust and à la mode beard. A beard Noel one might say.”

“Farmhouse Ales: nestled amongst the Niagara wineries along the road into Niagara-on-the-lake Ontario lies a big old red barn — now the home of the new Niagara Oast House Brewers. The brewery is the passion of a group of  local Niagara wine and beer industry friends that decided beer was their love. Oast’s essence and visual palette were designed to convey the area’s bucolic country lifestyle and soul.

The Saison and Biere de Garde are Belgian style farm ales. Seasonals that would have traditionally been served to keep farm workers hydrated and happy in the fields as well as to celebrate the harvest. The ales are an embrace of the local farm spirit that is so deeply integral to the Niagara region.”

“Dillon’s Small Batch Distillers is a new entry into Canada’s craft spirit scene; making crafty ultra high quality spirits in a Chad copper pot still in Beamsville Ontario, the heart of wine country. The goal was to create a crisp, easy and cheerful brand and package that could tell the story of pure natural ingredients and transparency in the Dillon’s process.

Among the core products — Gin, Rye, Vodka and Bitters, Dillon’s creates ever changing seasonal spirits in small batches so a packaging solution that could be fashionable while cost effective for small volumes was imperative. Consequently the stripped down palette and clear reliance on colour does the trick; modest low volume print costs while telling the brand story and creating a sunny presence on their store shelves and your bar.”

“We really enjoy designing labels for small batch wines as it opens up so much possibility when free of the constraints of volume application and materials. Also, the consumer’s relationship with small volume wines is more intimate and as such close-up and tactile. Not to mention, the wineries themselves don’t mind hand applying labels when there are so few to do!

Believe it or not, Canadians share an indelible spirit and commonality — we are hard working, nose to the grindstone underdogs that stop at nothing to get the job done. Despite our modest stature, conservative stiff lips and ever apologetic disposition, we rise to the top when the game bell rings.

Mike Weir embodies this spirit and among his Canadian sport icon peers, stands out as the true Underdog. In sport as in wine, Canadians continue to stand up to the challenges, capitalize on timing and execute on hard work as did Mike Weir leading up to his win of the 2003 PGA Masters.

Mike Weir’s Underdog Wine Co. celebrates all of our achievements as Canadians — you, me, wine, design, sport, innovation — Canada is right there leading the way. Congrats to Mike Weir, Ontario wine and all Canadians.

“Speck Bros. Wines allows the Specks the agility to produce wines that express the other aspects of their personal story and interests without diluting their previous successful brands such as Henry of Pelham and Sibling Rivalry Wine.

Insite began assisting them on the personality and visuals of this new House Wine Co. brand by creating series of art and illustrations that could embody the idea of a House Philosophy. The goal of House Wine Co. is to re-establish peoples’ belief in the house wine as a confident choice, similar to that of a restaurants house specialty.

Eventually, and many sketches and iterations later, we arrived at a simple and honest chalk form of illustration and writing that would express the easy and sincere wine in the bottle.

A package was created as well as carton. To ensure the story could be well told to a wide audience, we filmed a series of videos to explore the idea of house wine and how a house specialty or favourite go to wine can make life or experiences simpler and more enjoyable.”

“Truly the health of a wine region is measured by what exists in the spaces between the vines. Niagara has a very healthy and quickly growing region thanks to pioneers in food and experience culture like Nicolette Novak of the Good Earth Cooking School located in the Beamsville Ontario tender fruit belt and respected viticultural area.

After a successful 15 or so years of creating and building one of the regions most exciting farm to table cooking experiences, Nicolette was itchy to throw her hat into the wine arena. With the delicate urging of her peers including Ed Madronich of famed Flat Rock Cellars in Jordan, Nicolette was convinced to go for it in a brand perspective and approached us to look at repositioning her well know identity while also coming up with brand extensions for her wine and food packaging.
