“Sandeman challenged VOLTA to create a tourism multi pack of 5 mini-sized Porto wine bottles, for some strategic POS, Sandeman Cellars and Dutty Free’s. VOLTA should use Sandeman’s early 20th century iconic advertising materials, such as Jean D’Ylen’s “The Centaur” or Loxton Knight’s “Femme Fatale”, and incite customer’s to buy it as a gift for their family and loved ones.

VOLTA decided to create a customizable pack, resembling a postcard. The person buying the Tourism Pack could write a message in the front and address it to the person receiving the gift. With premium finishings, we ended up producing two postcard packs and a generic one, with Sandeman’s iconic symbol, the DON, as the protagonist.”

Românico Bordados

Românico Bordados

ROMANICOBABY1

Designed by VOLTA | Country: Portugal

“Românico Bordados (embroidery) wants to recover the famous Vale do Sousa (an area in Northern Portugal) embroidery and turn these fantastic linen and cotton goods into luxury items. Noticing that the motifs of these embroidery have been the same since the XII century (they are inspired in the motifs found in Romanesque style Route monuments of Northern Portugal), they asked VOLTA to create a brand that showed off this fantastic longevity, the exquisite embroidery of their products and a traditional, handmade look. Our solution was to create a symbol based on the monument’s motifs, allied to a decorative but strong typography (Estilo Pro by portuguese typeface designer Dino dos Santos). We used kraft-like paper for the tags and product boxes, printing only in one color.

We also created the brand’s kids range, Românico Baby. With illustrations by Helena Soares, based on animals portrayed on the monuments of the Romanesque Route, this brand range has, on the other side, a focus on color and decoration. Each animal has its own geometric shape and color, with this palette allowing us to create very colourful packaging and product displays.”

“The wooden box contains a short animation entirely designed by Zina Caramelo during 2013. This animation was developed over a period of 9 months through a long process of creating versus destruction. The medium used was a single wooden plank on which reinvented/unrolled all visual and poetic discourse, using multiple techniques. This life cycle ended up in a box, whose construction involved two distinct phases: one mechanical and other manual.  The first stage – mechanical , involves the cutting and laser printing (1 hour and a 30 minutes), getting 6 different pieces. The second and last stage — the manual one, passed by the processing of collage techniques of the 6 pieces, drying (2 days) and sandpaper finish (30 minutes) to create the final drive. Each box is unique.”

Complexus

Designed by Miguelfreitasdesign | Country: Portugal

“The main concept for the brand and label design is the idea of complexes and a new approach to a wine label design. In Portugal wine labels are usually traditional and so we wanted to break that idea by using an image of forgotten things, like postcards or old images, but with a strong feeling of complexes. You don’t have to hide behind a mask because you don’t know anything about wine, it’s easier to say you just like to drink it. Forgot all your complexes and just have fun.”
