“As part of an entire portfolio rebrand, St. Bernadine was asked to help create a new look for Lighthouse Brewing Co.’s “House Series” family of craft beers.

Aligned with the brand’s nautical positioning, and inspired by bold, colourful patterns found on lighthouses around the world, the team at St. Bernadine created striking patterns for the family (Race Rocks Amber Ale: horizontal stripes, Keepers Stout: diagonal bars, Beacon ESB: diamonds, and Bowline Pilsner: checked squares).

The flat white base colour brings family unity to the series as well as echoing the lighthouse namesake, while the colourful patterns allow each flavour to be easily distinguished within the series and contribute to findability and presence in a visually cluttered craft category.”

“Birra Fresca, a palate smacking cucumber mint IPA, is the latest addition to R&B Brewing’s family of hand-crafted beers design by Saint Bernadine Mission Communications Inc. Strong, yet strangely refreshing, this beer’s cucumber and mint notes inspired the fresh summer colours and cues, while the beer’s 6% heft required a deep comfortable chair.

Like other R&B Brewing beers, the design language is inspired by R&B’s resolutely hand crafted product – as such, every element on the packaging is rendered by hand, including the bar code. Key brand story elements, hand rendered in expressive type, and additional varietal information, like IBU scale, boil information, aging temperature, hop and barley type and mix all support R&B’s independent, craft positioning.”

Evil Spirits Vodka is the product of a distilling craft so refined it must have been exchanged for diabolical favours. St. Bernadine extended this brand promise through every detail of the design language. Custom word mark? Evil. Spirit renderings in matte varnish? Evil. Recipe card? Evil. Ouiji board with commemorative cast pewter planchette? Evil. It’s time to succumb to the guilty pleasure of Evil Spirits.”

East Side Bitter

“R&B Brewing is one of Vancouver’s original East Van micro breweries, predating the current trend by almost two decades. Partners Rick (“R”) and Barry (“B”) asked St. Bernadine to help with a packaging redesign, initiated by the move from 650mL bottles to a standard 341mL 6-pack format.

The design language is inspired by R&B’s resolutely hand crafted product – as such, every element on the packaging is rendered by hand, including the bar code. Bold silhouette key illustrations take their cues from the beers’ quirky naming conventions, and strong colours aid standout and shelf blocking. Key brand story elements, hand rendered in expressive type, and additional varietal information, like IBU scale, boil information, aging temperature, hop and barley type and mix all support R&B’s independent, craft positioning.”
