“Românico Bordados (embroidery) wants to recover the famous Vale do Sousa (an area in Northern Portugal) embroidery and turn these fantastic linen and cotton goods into luxury items. Noticing that the motifs of these embroidery have been the same since the XII century (they are inspired in the motifs found in Romanesque style Route monuments of Northern Portugal), they asked VOLTA to create a brand that showed off this fantastic longevity, the exquisite embroidery of their products and a traditional, handmade look.Our solution was to create a symbol based on the monument’s motifs, allied to a decorative but strong typography (Estilo Pro by portuguese typeface designer Dino dos Santos). We used kraft-like paper for the tags and product boxes, printing only in one color.

We also created the brand’s kids range, Românico Baby. With illustrations by Helena Soares, based on animals portrayed on the monuments of the Romanesque Route, this brand range has, on the other side, a focus on color and decoration. Each animal has its own geometric shape and color, with this palette allowing us to create very colourful packaging and product displays.”

“Two passions collided to create Cori Creed’s Wildflower Honey. Acclaimed West Coast landscape artist Cori Creed embraced a family tradition when she introduced bees to her flower garden – which can be admired from her studio window. To celebrate her first harvest, Cori wanted to create a limited edition package that she could share with friends, family, and supporters.

Designed by St. Bernadine, the packaging drew inspiration from Cori’s first passion – painting. Using paint tubes, St. Bernadine created a unique and simple package that was perfect for the artist. Custom lettering was created to emphasize this personalized, one-of-a-kind honey, while subtle flourishes and intricate details reflected Cori’s dedication to both her art and her garden. A die-cut label was wrapped around each tube, noting the individual flowers that helped to create the honey, along with a personal message from Cori.”

“Lumis is an environmentally conscious candle company. I designed packaging for their tea-lights to honour this commitment to sustainability. A recycled cardboard container with a lid will protect the candles better during transport and also be re-sealable after opening. Once the candles are gone the consumer can re-purpose this container to store something else, or easily recycle it. Allowing the natural cardboard to show, and using simple graphics and a single colour makes it instantly apparent that the minimum amount of materials and resources were used for the package. The tactile qualities of the cardboard and natural inks convey quality while also providing effective and attractive storage.”

“In Good Health is a brand of muesli aimed at the average, middle-class consumer. Nowadays, a lot of people are aiming to be much more conscious of their health, and what they are putting into their bodies. Muesli is a great addition to anyone’s day. High in fiber, and vitamins; it is guaranteed to start your day off correctly. It is based on the recipe created by the Swiss in the early 1900s, using dry oats and various dried fruits, nuts and seeds. It can be mixed with milk or yogurt! In Good Health promotes healthy nutrition through making its’ consumers aware of the valuable nutrition packed into each serving of muesli through illustrations on the package. Additionally, it makes measuring these servings easy by having the lid serve the dual purpose of also equaling exactly one serving! Through In Good Health’s playful illustration, healthy nutrition, and easily used packaging; it is sure to break into the breakfast cereals market with ease!”
