“Rackare is a Swedish adaptation of the (in)famous party game “Cards Against Humanity”. After a few alterations to the gameplay and loads of new cards written and tested the guys over at Ninja Print asked me to give it a look of its own. The very appropriate black-and-white-cards-theme got to stay, since it’s simplicity goes well with that of the game. However, I felt the game needed a cheerful vibe so the black-and-white got paired with the big smiling logo in a clean minimalist design based on three colours. A third of the cards are white, two thirds are black and hence the top lid of the box has the same proportions of black and white. Its width is also one third of its length. Both these features create a number of fun ways to display the game in stores.”

MM Identity Lab calendar

“Every year, MM Identity Lab produces a calendar that correlates with the Chinese Zodiac. Because 2014 is the Year of the Wooden Horse, we decided to create a poker-inspired desk calendar that doubles as a deck of cards. The woodcut-style illustration and wooden holder play off of the Zodiac. 12 of the 52 cards in the deck represent the 12 months in the year and correlate with the four seasons. These calendar cards can be displayed on the wooden holder to guide a person through 2014. Come the next year, the calendar can hang around as a custom-designed deck of playing cards.”

“The Artisan White Edition playing cards, like the previous Black Edition, were designed by South African artist Simon Frouws and feature elegant gold foil hot stamped onto ultra-lux white paper. They were produced using FSC-certified papers derived from sustainable forests, vegetable-based inks and starch-based laminates. These are also available in a collector’s set with two White Edition Decks and two Black Edition decks in a beautiful laser etched wooden box.”

“Fashion designer Christopher Wicks (of English Laundry) teamed up with magicians Dan and Dave for an online advertising campaign to promote a new line of mens shirts along with a custom deck of playing cards. The Playing Cards are printed in limited quantities with metallic ink. Each deck comes complete with a custom box, ace of spades, and court cards all hand-drawn by famed English Laundry artist. Playing Poker has never looked so good!”

Return of the Living Red

“Mash has been involved with a variety of packaging and branding projects with Redheads Studio of McLaren Vale. At the top end of their fine wines is the ‘Return of the Living Red’. Packaging needed the usual unique Redheads touch. As this wine is non-vintage it has no age (the 2 grape varieties coming from different vintages). This was a complex fine wine with no listed age; a mysterious and intriguing wine. To compliment this the nature of the product, Mash developed a concept to create a small pack containing missing and/or suppressed crime files implying the existence of the living dead in and around the vineyards. With use of disturbing illustrations and fascinating old photos on a toothy uncoated paper the concept was bought to life. A slip knot with old twine and a deep red wax dipped bottle went with the old crime file folder to create one of our favorite wine packaging pieces.”

“Marshall Field’s teamed up with the Art Institute of Chicago to release a limited edition run of collectible giftcards, featuring famous art masterpieces from the Art Institute collection. We named the campaign Field’s Flora, since most of the artwork selected from the Art Institute involved floral paintings. Paper for the art card sleeves was selected to accommodate letterpress printing and give the impression that this may of been something pull out of a grandmother’s attic, like a vintage flower seed packet.
