The Great Bonza

The Great Bonza

Designed by United Power | Country: Sweden

“Bonza is an Australian expression that describes the feeling that spread through the body before you exclaim “hurray!”. Something is bonza if it is superb and amazing, but at the same time laid back and relaxed. People and places can be bonza. This wine is. Therefore, it was namned The Great Bonza. The wine is produced in Australia by renowned Quarisa Wines, and it is powerful and nuanced, with hints of black currant, black cherry, licorice and coffee.

For the design the client wanted something playful and colorful. We got catchwords like: cheerful and retro. The latter, as producer John got a retro feel of the name. The client also wanted to relate to the Australian origin.

So we thought: since the wine is powerful in flavour, and The Great Bonza is a quirky name for a wine – why not use a quirky Australian circus? The design is playful with a nod to the classic image of the boxing kangaroo. We chose happy and bright colors that are perhaps a little unexpected in the context. We wanted the box to stand out on the shelf, but also add to the atmosphere at the dinner table – a truly colorful exterior for a truly colorful wine.”

Seaworthy Vodka

The Great Bonza

lovely-package-seaworthy-7

Designed by Squad Ink | Country: Australia

“We constantly find ourselves dreaming up product ideas that bridge the gap between design and product development. Seaworthy Vodka is one of those ideas that we’re proud has made it off the pages in our scrapbook and into production!

Inspired by the Australian seaside and the glorious Bloody Mary cocktail –Seaworthy’s unique taste profile is navigated by the native Australian botanicals of Saltbush (recalling sea-like flavours), Dorrigo Pepperleaf, Lemon Myrtle and Coriander seed.

Seaworthy explores the relationship between land and sea: Two powerful forces coming together to represent the creation of something intriguing and exciting through the complex profile of earthy spice and salty, sweet sea flavour notes. We captured the energy and drama of land and sea colliding through a striking illustration applied to a full circumference bottle label that draws in consumers from all angles.”

Melbourne Moonshine

The Great Bonza

lovely-package-melbourne-moonshine-1

Designed by Sense | Country: Australia

“Melbourne Moonshine is a brand new alcohol firm based out of South Melbourne. For its branding, packaging and website, we drew influences from the bootleg history of moonshine itself, as well as the shape of the celestial moon and the copper of the alembic stills used to create this unique liquor.

Melbourne Moonshine was also the opportunity for Sense to design our first spirit bottle, which made us proud as punch (Moonshine punch, of course).

The pillars of this fine drop’s brand identity include photography referencing film noir aesthetics and a tone of voice full of Appalachian jargon and down-home attitude and we can tell you, we had as much fun as a moonshiner sampling from the still working on this job.”

Archie Rose Distilling Co. Tailored

The Great Bonza

Designed by Squad Ink | Country: Australia

“Squad Ink has created a world first where everyday spirit lovers have the ability to customise their own single bottle of vodka and gin or cask of whisky all from their phone. They even get their name on the bottle.

“We’d been working with Archie Rose Distilling Co. for almost 2 years leading up to it’s launch in Rosebery, Sydney, so we knew everything there was to know about their incredible operation. During a workshop we floated the idea, ‘What if you could customise your own spirit online?’ Will Edwards (Founder), pretty much said ‘Yep, we can make this happen’. We had been following the craft craze with Sydney-siders getting right behind hands on projects like, cheese making, producing their own honey and even beer. This was just the beginning but it was time to take it online and offer a unique consumer experience, available to anyone, anywhere, anytime.

The Tailored Spirits range is a truly bespoke, one of a kind offering, so Squad Ink created packaging worthy of the title. “We were given the green light to go all out, so we produced stunning foiled stamped labels, that feature your customised spirit specifications and even your name on the bottle. We found that people were dying to create spirits for friends so you can now add a lucky mate’s name to the bottle.”

Archie Rose Distilling Co.

The Great Bonza

lovely-package-archie-rose-distilling-co-1

Designed by Squad Ink | Country: Australia

“Archie Rose Distilling Co. is the first independent distillery of craft spirits in the City of Sydney since 1853. Archie Rose honours this rich history while offering Sydney-siders the chance to experience genuine grain-to-glass spirit production onsite with an incredible cocktail bar to boot.

Squad Ink was engaged to brand, package and launch this incredible craft distillery and range of spirits, including a Dry Gin, Original Vodka and a White Rye.

We opted for a heavy-weighted base, bullet style bottle that borrows its shape from the copper pot stills from which the gin, vodka and whisky flow. It’s a nod to the classic whisky bottles of the prohibition era in the United States – confident yet completely unpretentious. Of course, the specific bottle we sketched out didn’t exist as a stock bottle so we had a custom mould created. This opportunity allowed us to distribute more glass in specific areas, such as the neck and shoulder, making way for an authentic mottled glass appearance and heavy in-hand assertiveness. We also added a 360 degree recessed label indentation across the so that the full-wrapped belly label could be profiled as a hallmark design feature. We also embossed “Archie Rose Distilling Co.” out of the base of the bottle in the fashion of a craftsman’s mark – subtle and out of plain sight.”

Tony Ferguson

The Great Bonza

lovely-package-tony-ferguson-5

Designed by Maud | Country: Australia

“The challenge was to reposition Tony Ferguson as an educational lifestyle program that helps people re-engineer their approach to food and health – not just a quick-fix meal replacement diet. We needed to educate consumers about healthier living, encouraging them to form a new relationship with food and move from a weight-loss mentality to lifestyle change.

Our strategy was to empower people with the confidence and knowledge to take control of their relationship with food.

We established a new brand identity and a set of basic outcomes that the brand had to represent.
– Modern, yet able to withstand the test of time.
– Pharmaceutical whilst not feeling cold and impersonal.
– To support the ‘lifestyle’ nature of the brand, the design had to feel like something people would be proud to associate with.
– Re-establish Tony Ferguson as an expert and trusted brand — a champion of healthy eating and education.

Launched in January & February of this year, sales have already increased year on year and anecdotal feedback suggests that the new brand identity is receiving positive acknowledgement across the board including the trade and other key stakeholders.”

Grill Iron

The Great Bonza

lovely-package-grill-iron-1

Designed by End of Work | Country: Australia

“A spirited new brand identity with a healthy attitude and an appetite for opinion. The grill is king. The logo is quite literally type on a grill and by using a graphic inspired by the grill, the visual identity has an impactful, almost militant quality with thick black scorch marks burned into key pieces. The packaging was designed to be as visible as possible on the super-lean budget. The interiors, signage, uniforms, point of sale and packaging all reflect this natural, clean ethos, using raw materials and earthy finishes, we paid homage to the handmade and bespoke offer that is the Iron Grill way. This idea drove the identity, which in turn drove the direction of the interior, the textures, the materials, the uniforms. All these elements build a engaging and memorable experience.”
