“I began this self-initiated project recently, to develop a line of hot sauce: Hugo’s Hot Sauce.  I took on a metaphorical approach to the label illustrations.  Starting with a matchstick to represent the mildest one, they increase in spiciness continuing on to: camp fire, forest fire, fuse and lightning bolt.”

Apinya Thai Chili Sauce

Apinya Thai Chili Sauce

Apinya Thai Chili Sauce

Designed by Apsara | Country: United States

“Apinya Thai Chili Sauce is our signature hot sauce inspired by the flavors of Thailand and made with fresh Thai chilies, roasted red peppers, garlic, and ginger.

The creative team designed the overall brand based on extensive research of Thai cultural design elements and existing Thai food packaging. The brief required that the product be quickly visually recognizable, include references to Thai culture, and focus on details to convey a high-quality product. The label artwork was custom illustrated to reflect a “maximal” aesthetic of Thai design while staying visually balanced.

The octopus character is unique, eye-catching, and real octopus pairs well with the hot sauce itself. A clear label was used to actively exploit the texture and bright color of the sauce as part of the design. The octopus’s tentacles showcase the main ingredients and he even has a mouth full of the sauce if you look closely.”

“Red and brown sauce in British homes are a given. Every house has them and everyone uses them. The brief was to design packaging for sauce that would come in a Harvey Nichols food hamper that had to be very British in design and humour. The Victorian engravings of the man and women are to reflect the idea of ‘Middle Class’ men and women who would buy these hampers. The splat of the sauce on their faces is very reminiscent of being at the seaside and throwing wet sponges at people in the stocks which adds a bit of fun and humour into these everyday products. The name of the red sauce derives from the war when our men were called Tommies. And Saucy Brown is very tongue-in-cheek.”

“Last year my wife, kids and I started a garden. We planted a bunch of Jalapeño peppers. They grew so well we didn’t know what to do with all the ripe peppers and I didn’t want them to go to waste so I created a sauce. I had no idea that it would work but it did. Family and friends would come over and I would have it on the table with meals in an old Shoyu ( soy sauce ) bottle. They liked it so much that they requested their own bottles. I started making larger and larger batches and couldn’t keep up with the requests. At that point I knew it was time to go bigger. Now my immediate family is addicted to it along with my extended family and friends. Seriously one bottle will be drained by the end of some meals.”

“The assignment was Diablo Salsa and Tortilla packaging, and it had to have a Mexican feel. I decided to use Catholicism in Mexico for inspiration, and found some Patron Saint candles to work off of. This is the final product.”

“Fuego Hot Sauce is an authentic & engaging way to spice up your dishes. Each blend has a different heat level and flavor that pairs with a variety of food. The Fuego Heat Guide and Recipe book explains the background of each pepper and suggests recipes that correspond with each unique flavor level on the Scoville Heat Scale. I wanted to evoke the authentic feel of the sauces and showcase their natural colors and flavors. By giving the product a sturdy bottle and hearty labeling system, people can feel confident using the product and know exactly what level they use according to their color and scaling system.”

Designed by Tower of Babel | Country: United States

“Tower of Babel was recently hired to design a limited edition package for Goat Island Pepper Sauce. Goat Island Pepper Sauce is a vinegar-based spicy condiment for steak, chicken, seafood, etc. (think hot sauce meets steak sauce). The makers of Goat Island Pepper Sauce wanted something that would represent the limited nature of this small batch and thus a keepsake cedar box was also designed and produced. The batch was limited to 500 bottles and the labels were lovingly applied by hand.”

Hashi – #@$#!

Hashi - #@$#!

_1

Designed by Hattomonkey | Country: Russia

“Hattomonkey has created a packaging design of hot sauce “Hashi” based on unique “non-censored” view. There is a huge selection of “Hashi” hot sauces: a very hot “Halapenio”, extremely hot “Habanero”, unbearable hot sauce “Cayenne pepper”, as well as wasabi and mustard. That special look #@$#! was created just as soon as we tried this hot sauce at the studio. It’s a comic stylized pack with logo consists of only symbols. So the exclamation balloon is to show an emotional wave. Designers have adopted a comic method. When it’s hard to express feelings through words they supplement text by pictures. Thereby the sauce pack content is reintroduced by shout balloon with jagged edges. Hattomonkey informal packaging design is hot and excited. This is not just a simple sauce on a store shelf, it shouts the same language you do “#@$#!”.”
