“Arktis is a artisan gelato company situated in beautiful Svolvær, in the heart of the Lofoten Islands. Arktis produce natural gelato and sorbet with only natural ingredients. The production is done by hand and all the flavours are blended in manually. We wanted to capture the lines and the motion of the ingredients to give the public an association of the product on everything from the stationary to the website. It was a important for us to distance the identity and the products from other competitiors on the Norwegian market.”

Blossa Annual

Blossa Annual

Designed by Scandinavian Design Group | Country: Sweden

“Challenge: since 2003 Blossa has launched an annual limited edition of glögg (mulled wine) with a new flavour and design. The launch is considered one of the prime happenings for Swedish glögg lovers. For many years, Blossa held an unthreatened position in new and innovative mulled wine flavours. Today, this is not the case. Competitors have started to catch up and launch their own versions of unexpected flavours as a means of competition. So what could we do to vitalize the brand further and manifest the position as a market leader?

Solution: when starting working with Blossa for the 2011 edition we created a design concept that could evolve and develop with each new annual release, moving the brand into a larger context beyond the packaging design and the perception of a traditional Christmas drink. The concept is based on new and interesting places where Blossa travels to find inspiration and exciting flavours. Coordinates on the bottle guide us to the exact destination that has inspired this year’s flavours. The taste of Blossa 11 is coffee, Arabica. A challenge every year is to find those right ingredients and flavours that goes perfectly with the traditional glögg spices. To find the ultimate coffee beans this year, Blossa went to El Salvador. The coordinates guide us to the plantation Finca las Delicias where the coffee is grown. The bottle is made in a brown matt, opaque finish with the year 11 distinctly printed and integrated in the coordinates.”

Fruene Chocolate

Fruene Chocolate

Designed by Tank Design Tromsø | Country: Norway

“The brief was to create a full range identity for a popular café in Longyearbyen on Svalbard. The client had recently started up the world’s northernmost chocolaterie, and were producing a wide range of handmade quality chocolate that needed packaging for the tourist market. The clients name Fruene means «The Ladies» and refers to strong female characters who during the last century made their mark in a male dominated and extremely rough hunter and trapper society. The end result is an homage to those women and to the unique stories of both the people and the animals that inhabit Svalbard. We have worked closely with both the client, writers and the Svalbard Museum in order to find the best stories and pictures. Simple color coding and clean typography distinguishes the different boxes from each other and leave the story in focus.”

“After the relaunch of Mack’s Isbjørn in February 2014, Mack’s Isbjørn beer has been a success, stealing market share from the competition, and is currently Mack’s best selling product. It seemed only natural to follow up on the product with a Lite version of the same brew. The design is closely related to the original Isbjørn, and being a calorie-reduced beer it only seemed natural to reverse the colors.”

Barista

Barista

Designed by Neolab by Knowit | Country: Norway

“Single Origin vs mixed products: Friele has changed their product line strategy and as a part of this we cleaned up the Barista line. The old Barista line had both espresso and blends mixed in between the singles. By moving them out we made a stronger concept and a stronger and more logic product line by presenting single origin products only.

The re-design mission: The old Barista had over time become a blurry mix of 8 different blends and grinds and roasts.

The shelf impact was weak and the remote signals of each product could have been stronger.

We missed a stop-signal from a distance. We missed the freshness signal whole beans represents. We missed the link to micro roasted products.

New packaging machines gave Friele new packages and possibilities for new design. The packaging structure was not unique but well fitted for large industrial production. It also gave space for a more graphic look.”

Nordlands

Designed by Strømme Throndsen Design | Country: Norway

“Ringnes is Norway’s largest brewer and part of the Carlsberg Group. Strømme Throndsen Design has redesigned their Nordlands Pils, a regional Northern Norwegian beer with a history dating back to the 19th century, that looked to establish a more contemporary interpretation of their heritage.

All the original elements have been kept but have been redrawn and hand lettered with a retrospecitive appreciation for detail and craft, and the iconic Nordlands boat has been given more contrast and dynamism to stand out in the shelves.

The redesign clearly provides the beer with a high quality and brand sensitive revision of the established local pilsner.”

“What would one of Norway’s leading advertising agencies be without it’s own homemade beer? Well, thirsty is probably one of the things so we decided to brew our very own IPA beer at our office in Oslo to treat both our clients and our selves with.”

Mack Isbjørn

Designed by by north™ | Country: Norway

“In February 2014 Mack Isbjørn is back on the shelves after being away since 2007. This is the first project by north™ has taken on for Macks Ølbryggeri, the worlds northernmost brewery. The goal for Isbjørn is to establish it as a competitor to products like Tuborg pilsener and Ringnes pilsener who today dominate the lower price-bracet in the beer-category in Norway, and to recruit new customers to Mack.

The design lends it’s language from Swiss Modernism and challenges the traditional beer-design seen in the category, which makes it stand out on the shelf with great impact both in graphic language and use of color.”

Lervig 10th Anniversary

Designed by Daniel Brokstad | Country: Norway

“Lervig started their brewery back in 2003, and now as it’s their 10th anniversary they decided to make a limited edition beer as a celebration, only sold directly at the brewery. The design tells the story of how it started with key words that changed from where they started and where they are now through a typography solution, that falls in similar old style category as the design style of their previous beers. The four pack consisted of 2 of each 2003 and 2013 editions and a little surprise as you open it you’re welcomed with “Enjoy your lervig” written under the closing mechanism. The design was printed as silver on pure black to emphasise both the exclusivity of the limited edition beer and a suitable combination for their anniversary.”

“The brief asked for a new range of flavored honey from Honningcentralen, the leading producer of honey in Norway. Our idea was to create a series of product which made the user feel like a chemist in the kitchen, with honey acting as a complementary ingredient to a variety of dishes — we wanted to create a honey that could act as a tool that could turn the kitchen into a creative playground.”
